Adjusting & Resting: Surviving Week 1 Postpartum

It’s officially one week since I gave birth to our precious baby girl. She was born on Good Friday, April 7th, 2023, at 7 pounds 9 ounces and 21 inches long.
We are one week into the postpartum phase and recovery is going pretty well. Here are some of the baby updates. She is on a pretty consistent schedule as of now, but I know that can change at any moment when a growth spurt starts. Typically you can expect the first growth spurt around 1-3 weeks of age.
The other spurts are usually around these time frames (as mentioned on Whattoexpect.com)
6 to 8 weeks
3 months
6 months
9 months
She has successfully pooped and peed on us at least 1 time, yay! 🤣 You definitely have to be quick with those diaper changes! One of the best tips I can share to prevent a horrible explosion of poop on you is to have the new diaper open and ready to put on the baby. You can also keep a wipe covering them so IF they do poop or pee, it will at least save your clothes! Ultimately, you can count on doing a lot of laundry with a newborn.
When you are in the hospital, they will give you a chart to track how many diapers and feeds you have while you stay there. Once you are home, it is still a good habit to track the feeds and diapers, but it can get a bit confusing with the mental fog you'll experience. Thanks to that computer in your hand, you have access to many, and I mean many, different apps to choose from. Personally, I have been using the Huckleberry app to track sleep, feeds & diapers. Totally love it & recommend it. It is very easy to use and it also tracks habits and pump sessions too!
Mommy update: The hormonal rollercoaster has been nice and easy thanks to my Sprigs postnatal releaf drops. I have had a total of 1 day where I felt overwhelmed by emotions and was able to communicate that with my husband and go take a nap. HUGE TIP: Listen closely to your body, there are signs that it will give you to keep you healthy.
Feeling fatigued, take a nap.
Breasts feeling full, go pump.
Feeling emotional? Hit pause and do something to make yourself feel better, like a shower.
Breastfeeding is going well. The first couple of days in the hospital were a bit tough getting the baby to latch. Remember, it is new to the baby and it will take a bit of time to get used to. Personally, I’m prone to mastitis and have had it with each one of my children, so I am doing different things to prevent that as much as possible. One of the things I am doing differently this time around is supplementing with Sunflower Lethicin from Legendary Milk. As of now, I have not had any hint of mastitis. The next thing I have been using is my cordless breast pump from Willow. 🙌🙌 They are amazing especially when you have multiple kids since someone is always in need of something!
I have had a lot of discomfort with IBS, so I am also incorporating lots of fibrous foods and eliminating processed foods and gluten from my diet to help with that. Some of my favorite foods to help with this are kiwis, sweet potato, chia seeds, and my multi-fiber supplement from 1stPhorm.
